A National Voice for Patients
The National Medical Malpractice Advocacy Association was founded with a singular mission: to ensure that no victim of medical negligence faces the system alone.
NMMAA provides education, advocacy, legal connections, and community support for people navigating the consequences of medical harm. The organization views healthcare accountability as both a justice issue and a patient-safety issue.
What We Stand For
Accountability
Healthcare providers, institutions and legal systems should be held to high standards.
Empowerment
Knowledge gives patients and families tools to navigate systems more effectively.
Equity
Access to information and advocacy should not depend on income or geography.
Compassion
Every case involves a person or family affected physically, emotionally or financially.
Advocacy
NMMAA works at both the individual and policy levels for accountability and reform.
Community
Survivors, families, advocates and allies should not have to navigate medical harm in isolation.
Founder & National Director — Deirdre Gilbert
A Houston native, educator, and advocate, Deirdre Gilbert founded NMMAA after witnessing firsthand the impact of medical negligence and the barriers that prevent many patients from obtaining meaningful accountability.
With a 26-year background in education and community empowerment, Gilbert developed NMMAA from a Houston-based effort into a national advocacy platform. Her work has included patient education, legislative advocacy, challenges to Texas damage caps, community outreach and the national Cancel the Cap movement.
